Episode 3
Ignatius of Antioch lived in the period following the apostles' establishment of churches throughout the Roman Empire. He was the bishop of Antioch, but was around the year 110 A.D arrested by the Roman authorities and sent to Rome, to be executed for refusing to honor the emperor as a god.
On the ship on his way to Rome, he wrote several letters, of which seven have been preserved to this day.
We know Ignatius primarily through these letters, which provide valuable insight into the life and faith of this interesting man. He wrote little about himself, but the content of the letters and their recipients offer some clues about who he was; a man who remained faithful to the end of his life, determined to do what his faith required of him.
